Step 2: Name Your Recipe

Once you’ve gotten the hang of creating Automator recipes, you’ll want to make more and more of them. As such, it’s important to give your recipes a name that makes them easy to recognize at a glance. For example, we’ve named this recipe Gravity Forms + MailPoet: Paid Newsletter Subscription. It’s not exactly the kind of gripping email subject lines that make your newsletter so compelling, but it gets to the point.

Step 3: Configure Your Trigger(s)

In the Triggers panel, from the menu of available integrations, click on Gravity Forms.

After you’ve selected your paid newsletter registration form, click Save. Your trigger should look something like this:

Step 4: Configure Your Action(s)

In the Actions panel, click on Add action. From the menu of available integrations, click on MailPoet.

Automator will prompt you to fill out the information for your new subscriber. You can use tokens to accomplish this. In Automator, tokens are dynamic pieces of information pulled from your WordPress website or, as with this instance, from within the recipe itself.

To select tokens, click on the Asterisk next to the field. From the drop-down list that appears, select the token you want to populate the field with. In our case, we want to populate the Email field with the email address that our new subscriber entered into the Gravity Forms email field.

Fill out the remaining fields using tokens from your Gravity Forms registration form.

After you’ve filled out all of the fields using Gravity Forms tokens, click Save. Automator will then prompt you to select the MailPoet list(s) to which you would like to add your new subscriber. We’ve selected our Paid Newsletter Mailing List. When you’re finished, click Save. Your action should look something like this:

Step 5: Start Writing Your Emails!

You’re just about done. All that’s left for you to do is to toggle your new recipe from Draft to Live.

Congratulations! You’ve just made your first Gravity Forms and MailPoet integration. The first of many, we’re sure. Once you become an “Automator Pro”—pun intended—you’ll be able to create incredibly powerful recipes that suit your specific workflows. Try adding some advanced features such as filters, delays and calculations to the recipe above to customize your paid newsletter subscription.

For example, we’ve added a second action along with a filter and delay to automatically remove subscribers from our paid mailing list if they haven’t re-submitted a subscription form with payment after 30 days. It’s a great way to maximize your readers’ engagement while minimizing the amount of time you’re spending micro-managing your lists.

Build an Email Opt-in That Defies Gravity

With a Gravity Forms and MailPoet integration, you can help your subscribers choose which of your newsletters is right for them. With this Automator recipe, we’re able to allow our new subscribers to decide which of our mailing lists suits their needs.

From your WordPress Admin Sidebar, navigate to Automator > Add New. A pop-up window will appear where you can select your recipe type. Because we want anyone to be able to subscribe to our paid newsletter, even casual site visitors, select Everyone.

Step 2: Name Your Recipe

We’ve named this recipe Marketing Email Opt-In.

Step 3: Configure Your Trigger(s)

In the Triggers panel, from the menu of available integrations, click on Gravity Forms. From the drop-down list, select A form is submitted with a specific value in a specific field.

Automator will then prompt you to select the field and input the value. In our example, we’re allowing our new subscribers to decide how frequently they want to receive our marketing newsletter.
