Connect Claude to your WordPress site and you can manage and automate the site by asking Claude. You add Uncanny Automator to Claude as a custom connector, approve access to your connected sites on mcp.automatorplugin.com, then try a first request.
An MCP server is how AI apps such as ChatGPT or Claude connect to other software. Uncanny Automator is an MCP server for WordPress with a built-in automation engine: it connects your AI to your WordPress site.
This is not the Anthropic integration in recipes, which adds an Anthropic API key so a recipe action can call a Claude model. That integration is covered in Connecting Anthropic to WordPress.
What you need
- A WordPress site running Uncanny Automator 8.0.0 or newer, at a public web address. mcp.automatorplugin.com can’t reach a site on a local address, such as a development copy on your computer.
- An Uncanny Automator account. A free account is enough: on the Lite plan you get 300 tool uses a day for your first week, then 150 a day, shared across all your sites and AI apps. A tool use is one thing your AI does on your site through Uncanny Automator. Paid plans have unlimited tool usage. See Tool uses and the daily limit.
- A Claude account on claude.ai. The Free plan allows one custom connector; Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise allow custom connectors too. On Team or Enterprise, the connector is shared with the whole organization (see the note in the next steps).
This article sets up Claude on claude.ai. Connectors you add there are also available in the Claude desktop app when you sign in with the same Claude account. To connect Claude Code, see Connect another AI app or developer tool.
Connect your site first
Claude gets its tools from the sites connected to your Uncanny Automator account, so the Claude setup page opens only after at least one site is connected. If you haven’t connected a site yet, follow Connect your WordPress site at mcp.automatorplugin.com, then come back here.
Open the Claude setup page
The setup page on mcp.automatorplugin.com has the server address you paste into Claude. Keep it open next to Claude while you work.
- Go to mcp.automatorplugin.com and sign in with your Uncanny Automator account. If your account has more than one license, choose one first. The Connections page opens.
- Click Connect an AI (it reads Connect another AI once an AI app is connected).
- Click the Claude card.

The Connect Claude page opens. It lists the steps for Claude, and under MCP server URL it shows the address https://mcp.automatorplugin.com/mcp. Every Uncanny Automator account uses this same address; your sign-in is what links Claude to your sites.
- Under MCP server URL, click Copy.

Add Uncanny Automator to Claude
Add the connector on claude.ai. The setup page lists the same steps in short form.
- In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors (or open claude.ai/customize/connectors).
- At the top right, click Add > Add custom connector.

- In the Add custom connector dialog, enter Uncanny Automator in Name and paste the address you copied in MCP server URL, then click Continue.
- On the next screen, keep the settings Claude detects (Sign in now under Authentication and Register automatically under OAuth client) and click Add.

- Claude adds the connector and opens its page, which reads “You’re not connected to Uncanny Automator yet.” Click Connect.
Claude opens the approval page on mcp.automatorplugin.com in the same tab.
Note: On a Team or Enterprise plan, a custom connector is added for the whole organization. An Owner adds it, here or in Organization connectors, and each member then finds it under Customize > Connectors, where it usually has a Custom label, and clicks Connect. Members can’t add custom connectors themselves. If Claude says “A connector with this URL already exists in your organization…”, Uncanny Automator is already there: don’t add a second copy. Find it under Customize > Connectors and click Connect.
Approve the connection
The approval page is on mcp.automatorplugin.com. It decides which of your sites Claude can use.
- If the page reads Sign in to review this connection, click Sign in and sign in with the Uncanny Automator account your site is connected to.
- If your account has more than one license, choose the license your site is activated on and click Use this license. Only sites on the chosen license are included.
- Check the top of the page. The heading reads Connect Claude to your WordPress sites?, and Return address shows claude.ai, where you’ll be sent back after approving.
- Under Access you’re approving, review what Claude can do: read and make changes on each site within that site’s WordPress permissions, see your sites’ names, addresses and connection status, and use sites you connect later without another approval.
- Under Sites included in this approval, check that your site is listed. To add a site that is on your license but not connected yet, click Connect next to it, approve it in WordPress, and come back to this page.
- Click Approve connection.

You’re sent back to the Uncanny Automator connector page in Claude, which confirms “Connected to Uncanny Automator.” If a page reading Returning you to your AI app stays open, click Continue.
Claude’s access lasts up to 90 days, as the approval page says. After that, Claude asks you to connect again.
Note: The approval page has no read-only choice. To limit what Claude can do on a site, use the switches in that site’s WordPress dashboard, described in Choose what your AI can access.
To confirm the connection, go back to the Connect Claude page. It shows Connected with “Claude is connected to your Automator account.” and a Review its site access link. Refresh the page if the status hasn’t updated.

If you started from the setup wizard in WordPress, go back to its tab. It moves on to the next step by itself once Claude is connected.
Try a first prompt
Claude uses a connector in a chat only when it is turned on for that chat.
- Start a new chat. Click + > Connectors and check that the Uncanny Automator switch is on. Turn it on if it isn’t.

- Ask: What plugins are installed on my site?
- Claude asks before it uses each tool from Uncanny Automator, for example “Claude wants to use List sites from Uncanny Automator”. Click Allow once, or Always allow so Claude stops asking for that tool. Decline stops that tool use.

Claude shows Used Uncanny Automator above its answer; click it to see each tool use. You can choose which tools Claude may use without asking on the connector’s Tool permissions under Customize > Connectors. If several sites are connected, name the site in your request. Each thing Claude does on your site counts as one tool use, so one request can use several. For more ideas, the setup wizard’s Try it step lists requests you can copy, such as “Review my site’s SEO.”
