Uncanny Agent is the AI assistant built into Uncanny Automator, so there’s nothing to install. Once Uncanny Automator is active and Uncanny Agent is available on your site, you can open it from your WordPress admin and start asking. This article covers opening Uncanny Agent, your first conversation, and closing or reopening the panel.
Uncanny Agent is free to start, and paid plans include Uncanny Agent usage; see pricing for what each plan includes and Monthly usage vs. Anytime usage, explained for how usage works. On Uncanny Automator Lite, connect your site to a free Uncanny Automator account first. Uncanny Agent is available to administrators only.
Open Uncanny Agent
- Log in to your WordPress admin as an administrator.
- Click the Uncanny Agent tab at the bottom of the screen to open the chat panel.
- The first time you use Uncanny Agent, a small “Need a hand?” prompt greets you with the message “Hi 👋 I’m Uncanny Agent. I can help you get things done!”
You can also open Uncanny Agent from the Uncanny Agent button in the admin bar at the top of the screen. Inside the recipe builder, choose Ask Uncanny Agent from the ⋮ More actions menu to ask about the recipe you have open.
If you don’t see Uncanny Agent
The tab and the admin bar button can each be switched on or off:
- Go to Automator > Settings and click the Uncanny Agent tab.
- Set Uncanny Agent Launcher Tab (the tab at the bottom of the screen), Uncanny Agent Top Bar Button (the button in the admin bar), or both to Enabled.
- Click Save settings.
On a new installation, both launchers start switched off. Answering Yes, enable Uncanny Agent in the Setup wizard switches both on, and a site that upgraded from an earlier version of Uncanny Automator keeps its previous launcher settings. The Uncanny Agent settings tab is shown on sites whose license or connected account includes Uncanny Agent. If the tab isn’t there, see Troubleshooting Uncanny Agent.
Where the panel opens
On Uncanny Automator screens, such as the Dashboard and the Settings pages, and on the WordPress Dashboard, Uncanny Agent slides out as a panel on the right side of the screen. The page narrows to make room, so you can keep working while you chat, and the panel stays open as you move between these screens. You can drag the panel’s edge to make it wider. In the recipe builder, the panel covers the builder’s right sidebar and the buttons at the right end of the top bar, including Recipe on and the ⋮ More actions menu; close the panel to get back to them. On other WordPress screens, Uncanny Agent opens as a separate window.
Your first conversation
The first time you open Uncanny Agent, you’ll see a welcome and, depending on the screen you’re on, a few suggested prompts to get you started. Click a suggestion, or type your own request in the Ask anything box at the bottom and press Enter.
What happens next
When you send a message, Uncanny Agent reads your request, decides which tools it needs (looking up data, creating content, building a recipe, and so on), and then either does the work or asks a clarifying question. While it works, you’ll see a status line such as “Working…”, and when it’s finished, a summary of everything it did.

Closing or reopening the panel
Click the Uncanny Agent tab again, or the close icon at the top of the panel, to close it.
Your conversation isn’t lost. Uncanny Agent saves your chat history automatically. See Managing your Uncanny Agent conversations for history, search, rename, and delete.
